Sucessful Varicose Vein Treatments at Eterna MedSpa & Laser Vein Center

Successful varicose vein treatment found at Eterna MedSpa

Want to be victorious in your fight against unsightly varicose veins? Look no further than Eterna MedSpa & Laser Vein Center.

“Unlike a dermatologist who specializes in skin disorders, our physician is a general and vascular surgeon who has specialized in veins for well over 30 years,” said Kathe Malinowski, lead esthetician and marketing manager.

What does the procedure entail?

“First, patients come in for an ultrasound to determine if there is varicosity in the veins, and

meet with the doctor,” Malinowski said.

Results from the ultrasound are then submitted to the patient’s insurance carrier for pre-authorization.

Eterna offers several treatments to help combat vein disease, including Endovenous Laser Ablation, or EVLA, and Sclerotherapy. Once cleared by insurance, appointments will be scheduled.

“First would be the EVLA to treat varicosity in the vein,” Malinowski said.

The procedure permanently shrinks and collapses the abnormal vein, thereby leaving it in place without surgically removing the vein. Laser energy is delivered through a tiny laser fiber inserted into the targeted varicose vein. The EVLA procedure is performed through a tiny nick in the skin to avoid scarring. No stitches are needed to close the small nick. The laser fiber is positioned using ultrasound guidance. Following the treatment, patients need to wear support stockings to compress the legs to keep the vein closed off.

Appointments for sclerotherapy, which is used to treat smaller varicose veins and spider veins, will follow. This is covered by insurance as it is part of the EVLA treatment. (When sclerotherapy is used on its own for surface spider veins it is typically considered cosmetic and is not covered by insurance.)

“For patients who do not have an underlying issue with varicosity we schedule sclerotherapy,”

said Malinowski.

Compression stockings also need to be worn during these treatments.
