How dermal fillers can help address sagging skin

If sagging skin is a concern for you, you’re not alone.

“Women start to lose their laxity as early as their late 20s and unfortunately it goes downhill from there,” said Kathe Malinowski, lead esthetician and marketing manager for Eterna MedSpa & Laser Vein Center.

One of the body’s largest organs, skin health is affected by a number of factors, including sun damage and improper care.

“When you lose laxity you also start to lose volume and the skin starts to sag,” Malinowski said.

Lines, called nasal labial folds, form from the bottom of the nose to the top corner of the mouth. People also experience a deepening of the lines in the bottom corners of the mouth, known as marionette lines.

But thanks to dermal fillers, sagging skin and deep wrinkles can become a thing of the past.

How does the treatment work? Unlike Botox injections which freeze muscles to stop creases and wrinkles, injectable dermal fillers fill in the lines or creases with a hyaluronic gel.

“There is filler for the cheek area that puts back the volume and gives you a lift in the skin,” Malinowski said. “Filler can also be used around the jowls to help fill in that whole area to smooth the area so there won’t be sagging there.”

Dermal fillers are made with Hyaluronic HA, which is a natural substance in the body that delivers volume to the skin.

“Modified HA is what is used in the fillers we use such as Juvederm,” Malinowski said. “Getting injected with filler help adds volume to the face without surgery while also restoring volume beneath the surface of the skin.”

The procedure is popular with Eterna MedSpa clients because of its ability to turn back the clock in a non-invasive way.

“Everyone loves filler,” said Malinowski. “Once you do it you won’t ever want to be without it.”
