Three Tips to Keep Winter Skin Hydrated

The winter season is often synonymous with skin that is dry, itchy and flaky. Here are some tips from Kathe Malinowski, lead esthetician and marketing manager for Eterna MedSpa & Laser Vein Center, on how to heal dry skin and keep it from returning:

1. Keep your skin hydrated

It’s imperative to drink plenty of water in the winter.

“With the heat running in our homes we get dehydrated easily,” Malinowski said.

She also recommends going heavier on your night cream application, as well as using a hyaluronic acid serum in the morning prior to putting on your moisturizer.

2. Head to the spa

A professional facial can also help kick dry skin to the curb.

“Your esthetician can tell you if you are dehydrated and she or he can recommend the right treatment for your skin, whether it be a Hydrafacial, a microderm or a custom facial,” Malinowski said.

At Eterna, a standard facial includes cleansing, exfoliating, and extractions to clear clogged pores. A mask is then applied, followed by a hydrating serum and moisturizer.

“Keeping your monthly appointments can do wonders for your skin,” said Malinowski.

3. Exfoliate on a regular basis

Malinowski recommends exfoliating the skin at least once a week.

“This helps to slough off the dead skin cells,” she said.

And that paves the way for better product absorption.

“Your moisturizer/hydrator will work better for you because it won’t just be sitting on top of dead skin cells trying to get in,” Malinowski said.
